MAKING CHANGE

Five prong lobbying strategy to enact equitable taxation

First and foremost, please download and read the current version of the equitable taxation measures by clicking on the link below. This is a grassroots movement calling for change not just for the sake of making change. If you read something that you disagree with or if you see that something is missing or could be better articulated, then please send in your edit suggestions.

Even for bills that do not face significant resistance, it can take Congress weeks, months, or years to draft and pass bills. Five major initiatives are necessary to ensure that equitable taxation policies are passed into law:

  1. Grassroots social media support: This is vital for explaining the bill, promoting grassroots events, hosting public interactive online meetings, and providing status on congressional engagement.
  2. Petitions: Americans from across the country can email, mail, and physically deliver petitions to their House and Senate representatives asking them to write and adopt the measures.
  3. Direct lobbying: Citizens, advocacy groups, and States need to lobby through face-to-face meetings, phone calls, and providing research.
  4. Tax policy polls: Surveys help scientifically measure public opinion, experiences, and knowledge regarding actions, laws, and proposed regulations. The polls serve to quantify the will of the people and provide critical precedents for the adoption of congressional action.
  5. Organized peaceful protests: In the day of Mahatma Gandhi, India’s protests were effective because people bravely stood together for a common cause. America’s protests, such as the 2011 Occupy Wall Street movement that criticized wealth disparity, captured the imagination of millions but preceded this congressional action plan. The idea is that instead of fighting, people stand together for their basic human dignity. With draft bills and measures in hand along with a lobbying strategy to champion change, it is possible to generate the required energy to compel the US Congress into passing tax reforms.
